Assessments
Taking the first step is always the hardest, but you’re not alone.
At the beginning of every therapeutic relationship is the assessment. All assessments are conducted by a trained evaluator. These are conducted as a way to gather greater detail on what motivated you to seek therapy at this time. At times specialized assessments (see below) may be warranted.
The assessment process begins with an discussion with you, the client. Other sources of information may be helpful to create the most full picture of you. Those sources of information may include a review of collateral information or records, conversations with collateral persons such as significant others or family members, supervisory authority figures, attorneys, etc. All collateral information and record reviews will be conducted only with your informed consent.
Specialized Assessments
what can I expect?
These assessments are conducted by therapists who have received specific training and/or certification. Some of the assessments are done in session, others can be completed from home. Given the nature of some of the specialized assessments, many of the questions pertain to personal or intimate details. It’s understandable that you may experience embarrassment or discomfort in sharing some of these details. The role of the therapist is to collect information, provide a non-judgmental and compassionate environment, and ultimately begin you on the road to total wellness. Because these specialized assessments include instruments that are exclusive to our trained therapists, there are costs not covered by insurance plans. See rates here.
GOttman Method Couples Therapy
Those participating in couples therapy may be asked to completed some out-of-session assessments at the start of the therapeutic process. These assessments are copyrighted by The Gottman Institute and will only be used by authorized therapists.
Sex + Love + Porn addiction
It is highly encouraged that you participate in a set of additional assessments to identify the intricacies of your compulsive or addictive behaviors related to sex, love or porn. These assessments are completed following the initial session with your therapist.
Results of this assessment package are reviewed by a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and discussed with you during future sessions. The results will highlight individualized targets for therapy and aid in the essential development of a treatment plan for your recovery and sustainable sobriety.
sexual offending behaviors
Adults or juveniles involved in sexually offending behaviors require additional evaluation with the purpose to highlight targets of treatment. The dynamic assessments of sexual offending behaviors are considered to be the standard for treatment programs. Assessment instruments specifically designed for adults or juveniles are utilized. All assessments are completed by a licensed therapist and trained evaluator. Plan for your initial appointment to take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours in length.
Family Reunification Assessment
The Risk of Sexual Abuse to Children (ROSAC) is an instrument used to determine the likely risk to any children in the home if the adult abuser returns to the residence. This instrument is a mandatory piece of the Family Reunification Process and should be considered as such.
