About Kim Melendy

Kim has been married to her primary partner for 17 years, and they have two children. She spent most of her early career life working in the real estate appraisal industry holding various positions with both regional corporations and small family businesses.  After deciding to leave the real estate field to grow her family, she pursued a new path of self-improvement that dramatically changed her relationships and self-image.   This clarification of her values and strengths provided new insights into her life and career priorities. When the time to rejoin the workforce arrived, she decided to return to her prior interest in the humanities and pursue the opportunity to continue her education in the helping professions.

Kim is an avid outdoors enthusiast. She enjoys getting out and about hiking, bird watching, and traveling to nearby mountain areas such as Red River Gorge. At home, Kim is an amateur organic gardener with about .5 acre on the westside of the city that she is slowly transforming into a mini urban vegetable farm.

Kim’s life experience and insights bring a unique perspective to her work with clients.  She chooses to approach the formation of her theoretical orientation in an eclectic manner, pulling inspiration from multiple theories such as Existential and Feminist Theory. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) modality is primarily used as a framework in her practice with clients.  ACT is a behavioral therapy that focuses on mindfulness and acceptance of the individual’s life experiences while pursuing a fulfilling life through values-based action and cultivating psychological flexibility in a world of inflexible circumstances.
