About Phil Snell

Phil was raised to think that if you worked hard enough, you could change your life all by yourself. In his experience as both a counselor and a human, he now believes it helps to have someone working alongside you. Phil is a former high school science teacher, a longtime coach, a spouse, and the father of two young children.

Working in community mental health, Phil gained experience in helping others with relationships, stress, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, depression, and bipolar disorder. He has a special interest in relational issues, especially the incredible upheaval of parenting. Phil uses active sessions to find the root of your problem, identify patterns and underlying issues, and reinforce short-term coping skills. His goal is your goal—long-term improvement and success. He recognizes that with mental health, sometimes the first strategy doesn’t work, and he will leverage that as a learning opportunity for both himself and you. Once you have a strong, trusting relationship with him, Phil will consider using EMDR, a research-based trauma therapy, to actively dampen the power of your trauma and stressors.

Instead of expecting immediate, drastic change, Phil will look for and celebrate your gradual growth. He can’t do the work for you, but he will support you, discuss your progress and setbacks, and walk with you every step of the way.
