Redeye flights are great until....

Recently I have been taking more redeye flights from the West Coast back to my home in the midwest so that I have more time at home. Redeye flights are great because you can sleep through the trip, the announcements by the crew are far fewer than a day flight and you don't waste a whole day traveling. My Grandpa used to say "if you have plenty of time, fly." And that's even more true these days with the security measures and number of people being processed through an airport.

Redeye flights in general are great until you get home. I don't know about you, but I have a really hard time sleeping on an airplane. It's not even that I'm in a upright position. I have the standard traveler accouterments: a neck pillow, noise-cancelling headphones, and a shawl. It's that I just can't sleep. My mind is spinning with information and a review of the work week, things I have to do when I get home, ideas for my next project, people I want to see. The list goes on and on. Thankfully, there are plenty of movies to watch on my iPad. But when I finally do get home, I feel like I've been up for over 24 hours. Oh wait, I have!!!

Since my recent experiences with redeye flights I've developed a routine of some simple steps to make sure that I don't ruin my normal sleep cycle and sleep away my extra day that I wanted in the first place. Here's my steps on how to recover from a redeye flight. Sign-up for my newsletter to get the full version of my tips! I've tried them and honed them into what works best!
